Arable crops with untreated or selectively-sprayed field margins, also known as conservation headlands, this typically increases the number of plants, invertebrates and can increase the number of birds associated with the field. The fields are typically included in an agri-environment scheme where the farmer is subsidised for not spraying the margins. Most unsprayed field margins are 2-5m in width, in keeping with the option selected in the scheme.
