Copernicus BioPAR GEOv1

Period: 1999 – present Sensor: SPOT-VGT and PROBA-V Frequency: 10 days Resolutions: 1km Extent: Global Data can be accessed here. Algorithm description: The algorithm is based on neural network and is same as described for Copernicus BioPAR GEOv1 LAI product. Accuracy: Direct validation with ground-based data showed RMSE and R2 equal to 0.078 and 0.889 respectively. For comparison,  direct validation for other available products resulted in:…

Copernicus BioPAR GEOv2

Period: 1999 – present Sensor: SPOT-VGT and PROBA-V Frequency: 10 days Resolutions: 1km Extent: Global Data can be accessed here. Algorithm description: The algorithm is as described for Copernicus BioPAR GEOv2 LAI product. It consists of 3 main steps: (1) neural networking to produce instantaneous biophysical variables, (2) multistep filtering approach to eliminated data affected by atmospheric effects and snow cover, (3) temporal…

Copernicus BioPAR GEOv3

Period: 2014 – present (demonstration product) Sensor: PROBA-V Frequency: 10 days Resolutions: 300m Extent: Global Data can be accessed here. Algorithm description:The algorithm is similar to GEOv2 algorithm. However, it is implemented using 300m PROBA-V data. More stringent cloud cover and zenith angle restrictions are implemented. Accuracy: Early validation conducted over sites in Europe for 2014 yielded RMSE = 0.1, bias = 0.043. Limitations:…

NASA MODIS (MCD15A3H v6)

Period: 2000 – present Sensor: MODIS Terra+Aqua Frequency: 4 days Resolutions: 500m Extent: Global Data can be accessed here. Algorithm description: The algorithm is similar to that used for NASA MODIS LAI product and consists of a main Look-up-Table (LUT) based procedure that exploits the spectral information content of the MODIS red (648 nm) and near-infrared (NIR, 858 nm) surface reflectances. The LUT…
