Salinisation

The process of becoming more salty; the accumulation of soluble salts (e.g. sodium chloride) in soil. Many Australian soils and landscapes contain naturally high levels of sodium salts held deep in the soil profile.

Remains non-vegetated (level 1). Level 3: From NS or AS (P1) to NS (P2).

Time period: months to years.
