Rising plate meter is a device for more accurate and representative canopy height measurements. The instrument comprises of a disk of 0.1m2 area which is dropped from a vertically downwards along a shaft. The height at which the disk settles along this shaft is recorded. The average height of the sward can also be converted into biomass by simple allometric equations. These equations however have been calibrated for commercial varieties of pastures.
